The results of the unit gradient calculation for this project led the engineer to the conclusion that a high flow drainage media was required to limit the head over the liner, and reduce the potential of seepage induced landfill slope failures. Two alternatives were present: gravel drainage, or high flow geocomposite. A geonet was determined to be the best option. Tenax Tenflow was selected as the appropriate geocomposite because of its significantly greater transmissivity than any conventional geocomposite, which better handles a great variety in cover soil permeability to prevent hydraulic head build-up.
